Burzitza Children's Home

It is just over ten years since members from Saltmine Trust first visited the near derelict Children’s Home at Burzitsa. At every turn there was neglect and need both with the premises and sixty-eight children housed there. Not surprisingly, morale amongst the staff was at rock bottom, as they tried to feed, clothe, accommodate and socialise young people between the ages of six and sixteen on less than a ‘shoe string’.

What a remarkable change has taken place! Most of the premises have been either renovated or completely rebuilt with décor, fixtures and fittings and general appearance up to or above Western standards. The children there are well fed, well clothed, healthy and generally happy. The Director and her staff now feel they are doing a worthwhile job and appreciate the conditions and facilities that now exist at the Home. Many of the children speak English, thanks to the efforts of Kiril Marinov, Saltmine’s representative for the Varna region and all the children have a bible and access to Christian influence, thanks to the long-term commitment of Penka Chonomova, her daughter Villy and late husband George.

Work teams from the UK have completed the new accommodation unit for girls, whilst other teams regularly interact and have fun with the children playing games, doing craft-work and just generally showing love and sharing time with them.
Lives have truly been changed physically, emotionally and spiritually thanks to the prayers, practical and financial support of many supporters.
